- Daily Datto status alert flagged red
- Snapshot failure on protected agent
- Local virtualisation refuses to boot
- Cloud sync (off-site) backlog growing
Likely causes
- Agent failure on the protected machine (ShadowSnap / Datto Agent)
- Appliance disk pool degraded (ZFS scrub error)
- Network link to off-site cloud saturated / interrupted
- Source machine OS issue masquerading as backup issue
Diagnostic steps

Datto partner portal — review the device status and per-agent backup history

On the protected machine: confirm agent service running; check VSS writers

Test local virtualisation in the appliance — boots cleanly? If not, recovery point chain may be compromised

Check appliance disk pool state (ZFS health, scrub last completed)

Off-site sync: bandwidth utilisation review; Datto support engagement if backlog persistent
Resolution path
- Identify whether fault is agent / appliance / off-site link
- Repair agent or appliance issue
- Verify next backup completes and is virtualisable
- Restore validation per critical machine
